Iowa Caucuses Live Blog

Welcome to my live blog of the Iowa Caucuses. I'll be updating this blog until 11:00 Eastern Time (UTC-5) or whenever the caucus results are declared. I'll be watching live on MSNBC, which I strongly recommend for straight-minded coverage. Comment with questions if you have any

11:40 ET: That's enough from me. Sanders and Clinton still virtually deadlocked. At this point, they are bound to split the delegates it appears, so I'm okay with calling it a night
10:58 ET: Approaching 11 eastern and Clinton and Sanders are almost dead even.
10:30 ET: Hillary Clinton's campaign is reportedly claiming victory in Iowa. Also, Mike Huckabee just suspended his campaign.
10:26 ET: Republican finishing order if results hold: Cruz, Trump, Rubio, Carson, Paul, Bush, Kasich, Fiorina, Huckabee, Christie, Santorum.
10:21 ET: NBC News is calling Iowa to Ted Cruz
10:20 ET: 99% of the Republican votes are in! 28% Ted Cruz. 24% Donald Trump. 23% Marco Rubio. Appears Cruz will take Iowa.
10:18 ET: Many remaining democratic precincts are in large university areas that could go to Bernie Sanders.
10:17 ET: Still 75% of the Republican vote is in. 28% Ted Cruz. 25% Donald Trump. 22% Marco Rubio. 79% of the Democratic vote is in. 50% Hillary Clinton. 49% Bernie Sanders.
10:01 ET: Martin O'Malley is expected to suspend his campaign after the votes come in
10:00 ET: 75% of the Republican vote is in. 28% Ted Cruz. 25% Donald Trump. 22% Marco Rubio. 63% of the Democratic vote is in. 51% Hillary Clinton. 49% Bernie Sanders.
9:37 ET: 46% of the Republican vote is in. 29% Ted Cruz. 26% Donald Trump. 20% Marco Rubio. 53% of the Democratic vote is in. 51% Hillary Clinton. 48% Bernie Sanders.
9:20 ET: 21% of the Republican vote is in. 30% Ted Cruz. 27% Donald Trump. 19% Marco Rubio. 33% of the Democratic vote is in. 51% Hillary Clinton. 48% Bernie Sanders.
9:14 ET: Bernie Sanders supporters dominating caucus in Iowa City.
9:00 ET: 5% of the Republican vote is in. 30% Ted Cruz. 29% Donald Trump. 28% Marco Rubio. 17% of the Democratic vote is in. 53% Hillary Clinton. 47% Bernie Sanders.
8:54 ET: NBC News declaring both races too close to call
8:40 ET: Not that many votes in so far. Probably less than 5,000 overall. I'll update you on the results again at 9.
8:39 ET: 1% of the vote is in in the Republican election. 35% Ted Cruz. 33% Donald Trump. 12% Rubio. 4% of the Democratic vote in. 52% Hillary Clinton. 47% Bernie Sanders.
8:29 ET: Donald Trump speaking now in West Des Moines. Vows once again to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.
8:25 ET: Carly Fiorina is also in West Des Moines.
8:16 ET: Donald Trump is in West Des Moines for a caucus.
8:06 ET: Marco Rubio is among candidates representing himself at a caucus location (Clive, Iowa).
8:02 ET: Too early to call based on entrance polls. Indications are of Trump and Clinton leads. 2008 also showed indications of a Clinton win, which shows how unreliable these indicators.
8:00 ET: The caucus doors close and the 2016 primaries are underway!
7:51 ET: Chuck Todd saying he expects Cruz supporters to try to persuade Huckabee, Carson, and Santorum voters to consolidate and support Cruz.
7:45 ET: Cameras showing massive registration turnout in Iowa City, which is a college town expected to overwhelmingly support Bernie Sanders.
7:39 ET: Reports are saying there has been large turnout for the caucuses tonight, which could help Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.
